Shore has said that the central storylines of several early episodes were based on the work of Berton Rouech?, a staff writer for The New Yorker between 1944 and 1994, who specialized in features about unusual medical cases.
Olivia Wilde doesn’t overplay the drama and getting Thirteen genuinely invested in winning the competition is a great choice, as is a fun western spoof. Toward the end of the episode, House utters one line that makes me snarl because it evokes Amber more than Thirteen, but overall, Thirteen’s return is handled much better than I expected, right down to a genuinely touching moment to close out the episode.

House often clashes with his fellow physicians, including his own diagnostic team, because many of his hypotheses about patients’ illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights. His flouting of hospital rules and procedures frequently runs him afoul of his boss (and, later, girlfriend), hospital administrator and Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein).

Critically acclaimed for much of its run, House maintains high viewer ratings. It was among the top-ten rated shows in the United States from its second through its fourth season; in the 2008-09 season, it fell to nineteenth overall. The C plot is an odd one revolving around Foreman’s obsession with Taub’s ability to sleep with hot women. Even odder, and not entirely welcome, as far as I’m concerned, is what Foreman finds in his apartment when he goes looking for Taub.

That’s House’s (Hugh Laurie) musical avatar, and even though he never hears it, we do, and it usually signals a moment of harsh realization in his life. He will (almost) never get what he wants (happiness, freedom from pain, lack of misery-take your pick)-but he usually gets what he needs. “You can’t always get what you want,” he tells her.
